TIMOR-LESTE

Advocating for responsive governance

Following Timor-Leste’s independence in 2002, there is still a crucial need to educate elected officials and the public about the functioning of the government and justice systems. With numerous isolated rural communities, it is imperative to raise awareness and garner support for governance at the village level.

Over the years, Counterpart has undertaken several projects in the region, most recently including the USAID/Timor-Leste NGO Advocacy for Good Governance Activity. This initiative aims to enhance Timor-Leste’s NGO enabling environment and empower nine local NGOs with improved organizational capacity, research capabilities, networking skills, and financial resources. By equipping these NGOs, the project facilitates evidence-based, responsive, and sustainable advocacy services that effectively represent and serve the citizens.
